Music Performer Services Preliminary Comments

The figures on this page outline pricing for the full range of services, with the top part being similar to the Arranging Rates under the Typesetting and Arranging Products. Typesetting Rates are not repeated here as that type of work is still classified as a Typesetting task and falls within that product category. The rates for binding, printing and covers under the Typesetting Rates are also the same rates for these products. The top section of the rates for this product line is the Arranging rates and below that are the Lyric Translation and Audio Assistance File Provision rates.

How to calculate line usage

Piano consisting of three staves: left hand, right hand, chords, vocal line and lyric line equals five lines.

Organ consisting of three staves: left hand, right hand, pedals, chords, vocal line and lyric line equals six lines.

Guitar consisting of chords and notation/rhythm slashes equals two lines.

Drums equal one line.

Percussion equals one line for each instrument stave.

Harp equals two lines.

Brass and Woodwind equals one line per instrument, even when block written.

Choral equals one line for each vocal part, even when block form.

Lyrics equal one line when score is block written, however when vocal staves are separated, then the number of lines equals the number of vocal separated staves.

A typical cabaret arrangement consisting of four rhythm and three front lines would amount to 12 lines, therefore attracting the $11.00 per vertical bar rate.

Lyrics Translation Rates

These rates are for translation into English from Latin, French or German only. Other languages need to be translated by other outside contacts through sub-contracting and are subject to quotation on application.

Literal translation per word (i.e. for benefit of audience, congregation or other informational use only - not suitable for singing) - $0.30 per original language word.

Paraphrased translation (not necessarily totally literal, however retaining the overall meaning) suitable for singing - $0.45 per original language word where minor modifications only required to enable lyrics to rhyme or fit a rhythm.

Paraphrased translation (not necessarily totally literal, however retaining the overall meaning) suitable for singing - $0.70 per original language word where more major modifications required to enable lyrics to rhyme or fit a rhythm. This is where the other language can be so poetically constructed as to make a totally literal translation almost impossible. The English would be almost a total rewrite so as to retain the original intention as much as possible, however the resultant translation could be a major departure from the original language, just to make the music singable.

Provision of Audio Assistance Files Rates

These rates are for the provision of audio files on a CD/DVD or USB stick to enable musicians to hear simulations of the work and/or their parts to assist with the learning of works. It should be noted that any preliminary work required for the preparation of these audio files which entails typesetting or arranging will be charged at the rates applicable to the Typesetting and Arranging Products Pricing Schedule under that section of this site. The Arranging rates listed above are identical to those in the Typesetting and Arranging Schedule and the page for the Typesetting and Arranging Products Pricing Schedule may be accessed for the purpose of calculating typesetting charges.

Provision of a .wav format file (computer synthetic sounds) onto a CD to be played through a conventional CD player - $0.30 per minute length of music on file per file, subject to a minimum charge of $6.00 for the first file and an additional minimum charge of $1.80 for each subsequent file. A full work simulation file and a performer own part file is regarded as two files. This pricing includes the provision of the CD or DVD.

Provision of an .mp3 format file (computer synthetic sounds) onto a CD/DVD to be played through a compatible player - $0.50 per minute length of music on file per file, subject to a minimum charge per file of $9.00 for the first file and an additional minimum charge of $4.00 for each subsequent file. (This charge is higher because of an additional conversion process involved.) A full work simulation file and a performer own part file is regarded as two files. This pricing includes the provision of the CD or DVD.

Provision of an .mp3 format file (computer synthetic sounds) onto a USB stick or straight to the individual musician's iPod - $0.50 per minute length of music on file per file, subject to a minimum charge per file of $5.00 for the first file and an additional minimum charge of $1.80 for each subsequent file. (This charge is higher because of an additional conversion process involved.) A full work simulation file and a performer own part file is regarded as two files. This pricing is cheaper than the two options above as the musician is providing his or her own media - i.e. no CDs or DVDs provided.
